Join the Mission
We are assembling physicists, neuroscientists, and engineers who can move from first principles to working instruments, and from difficult hypotheses to reproducible evidence.
We value sound physical reasoning, demonstrated work, and the ability to take responsibility for an experiment or a system.

Research and engineering
08 rolesBuild and validate the mathematical and physical foundations of new ultrasound-based systems.
Design optical instruments that can detect small signals in scattering biological media.
Develop fiber-optic and photonic sensing architectures for constrained biological environments.
Translate unconventional experimental designs into reproducible materials, microstructures, and fabricated assemblies.
Build reliable electronics, control systems, and experimental hardware for physical research.
Investigate computational models of cognition, behavior, and multimodal intelligence.
Build the software that unites experimental sensors, data, and scientific models.
Design falsifiable experiments at the boundary of cognition and computation.
Further research and systems
02 rolesDevelop wearable sensors and high-integrity physiological measurement instruments.
Build scientifically traceable infrastructure for complex, longitudinal research data.
Neuroscience and scientific collaboration
03 rolesHelp establish rigorous physiological ground truth for emerging neural-interface systems.
Build biological models and laboratory experiments to test new physical instruments.
Advise on anatomical constraints and translation of novel neural-interface architectures.
Operations and company building
03 rolesBring experimental sensing systems from the laboratory into reliable research settings.
Make ambitious experiments possible through fabrication, procurement, and laboratory execution.
Help build the research organization, partnerships, and operating systems behind the mission.
General interest
01 roleFor people whose strongest work does not fit neatly into a job title.

Send us your CV, your personal website or examples of work you have done. Include an informal handwritten statement of purpose, with no prescribed length, telling us why this mission matters to you, what difficult work has taught you, and what you would like to take responsibility for at Walnut. This mission will demand scientific rigor, patience, independent thinking and a willingness to test ideas against reality. Write the statement entirely in your own words, without using generative AI. We will not consider statements written using AI. A photograph or scan of the statement is sufficient, and a typed version is welcome if handwriting is difficult. A reference from someone who knows your work is welcome, but not required.
Write to Walnut Interfaces ↗These include current recruitment interests, prospective roles, and scientific collaborations. Specific arrangements and openings are confirmed directly with applicants.
